As Web 2.0 continues to become part of our daily lives, Facebook.com, a new introduction seems to be the number one topic at water coolers across North America and around the world.
While it isn’t necessarily new, it seems to have exploded more recently and if you are not a part of this phenomenon, chances are you are possibly too young or too old. Facebook is a free community-based website that allows users to find and connect with classmates from days gone by, old friends and family you’ve lost touch with. Groups and Networks are organized by geographic region and various topics of interest (which are added daily it seems).
It’s viral nature allows users to see any updates friends have made including profile, posts, notes and photos. The photo tagging feature is especially unique and you will know immediately if someone on the network has posted a photo in which you are included.
The site is being referred to as “Crackbook” as it’s highly addititive and therefore being compared to crack (cocaine)!
I’m personally intrigued by it’s mind-numbing growth and since joining, have reconnected with old friends from all over the world.
While I was never a fan of MySpace – likely due to the fact that I’m no longer single (and haven’t been for some time) – but the Facebook crowd seems to be more mature with far less tweenies and teeny-boppers than it’s predecessor.
Although it’s highly unlikely someone hasn’t already brought it up at least a few times in conversation, if you haven’t already joined, I do encourage you to check it out… unless that is, you (like some I know) have a fear of being contacted by an ex-psycho-girlfriend or stalker…

Yes, Facebook is 100 times classier than that dog puke pile of HTML known as myspace.

I believe it’s only as “mature” as your friends are, which is really the genius of the site. I expect most of your friends are older than 21 so you’re Facebook experience will likely differ exponentially when compared to someone that is, say 16.
I know when I visit some Facebook groups you see more of a mix of different maturity levels and more pronounced juvenile behaviour, although there is definitely an etiquette at play here.
Without a doubt better than Myspace because it has zero customization. I don’t know about you but every time I visit Myspace I am blown away by the apparent lack of taste. Dude those colors and all the bright flashing crap is hard on the eyes. At first I wanted to be able to do some customizing but as time went on I didn’t miss it. Facebook is a Brave New World.
